been offered a 92 k reg defender 90.has a td5 engine conversion done, chassis has been off and powder coated 2yrs ago, loads of new bits such as knobbley tyres, disco alloys, nice seats, newer dash.needs a bit of paint and the body is 2004 spec.
now the bad bit
steering pump is leaking but the clutch is knakered.engine starts ok.guy tells me its clutch arm and he has the new parts to fit,

just need a guide n the value of it

Very hard just from a description.

Condition is key - as is making sure it's not stolen/ringed

Does it have an MOT?

Best estimate - £3.5 - £4.5k depending on it being kosher and the clutch being sorted before you buy

thanks for that.
it has mot till july 12 tax just out.hpi clear.white in colour with black wheels

Just be aware that clear HPI does not mean it's not a ringer - thread on here (sticky I think) guiding on ringers.

Am sure it's fine, but when you see old chassis, newer engine, different body it's worth just doing all the checks you can - not that there aren't loads of Landys legitamately with newer add ons

I have a K reg 90 ... original 200tdi engine. I bought it for 2k but it had lots wrong and wouldn't have had a chance getting through an MOT. Spent over 4k getting her right, full MOT etc and I would say if I sold her tomorrow I would expect to get around 4k. Not sure if a TD5 engine will increase value as the 200tdi are most peoples preferred lump ... according to the poll on here anyway ;)

T'was the 2004 body that intrigued me Andy - as in 'why?'

Also from threads where people have asked, the TD5 conversion is not exactly a straightforward one - just made me wonder.....

Very true Martin, not a straight forward engine swap at all as you have all the extras that go with it ... totally different electrical systems and ECU on top ... does make you think whether it would have been commercially viable to do it in the first place.

I would put the value at more than that depending on the condition probably 4.5 to 5k upwards especially with the new body, i wouldn't sell my landy for under £3500 and thats a 1992 200tdi. definitely get it checked out!

If its white with black wheels its worth approx the same as a black one with white wheels.

Fiver says it's a ringer.

:5biagree:

been offered a 92 k reg defender 90.has a td5 engine conversion done, possible

chassis has been off and powder coated 2yrs ago, do the numbers match the v5?

loads of new bits such as knobbley tyres, disco alloys, wouldnt fit a 92 with drum rear axle without spacers

nice seats, newer dash.needs a bit of paint and the body is 2004 spec. whats a 2004 spec body and why do it?

if its genuine then it would probably fetch decent money but sounds fishy to me.

it does have its original doors on,which do look a bit tired.also he took the chassis off and had it blasted and painted.
but you are all right.
it will need checking fully.

Don't let it put you off though, you never know you could get a good deal when other people turn it down at first glance because they think its dodgy. If you check it properly then your ok. I was nearly put off when i bought mine because of some issues with a hpi check and private plate being on another car that had also been on the landy in an accident when it was on a different car but it was hard to interpret the HPI check.

where will i find the relevent numbers?

well first off all do a HPI check, you should be supplied with numbers/codes for the engine and the chasis, these will normally be the engine code or the chassis code that has been on the car originally when made, check these against the car to see if they match (obviously the engine won't if its a td5) there will also be stamps/plates on the car i can't remember where these are (someone will) but i believe these will also be relevant to checking the car.
