I know its neigh impossible to price but any rought ideas? My mate has a 1962 109 which he has just restored. Its in pretty good condition but not as new. He stripped it right down to the chassis, repaired it all and painted it. Its had a full respray and any new parts its needed...new doors etc. It runs the original diesel lump which is a bmc?

He's going to get a ticket on it then looking to get something he can use offroad.

Rough Idea going on what ive seen around, something from about £1200-£2000 if ur lucky. Depending on the quality of the rebuild.
 
It'll need to be pretty good and original to get £2k As with all 4x4's prices are falling rapidly and it's having a knockon effect on older models so unless it's got something which makes it stand out from the crowd he'll be lucky to get £1k for it.
 
I cant see how you would strugle to get £1K for a restored landy even if its not mint when people are selling em on ebay with no Tax/Mot and you can see through the chassis for £400. I know we arnt talking E type jags here but you wouldn't expect your E type to go down in value just because the new ones cost £400 a year to tax do bugger all to the gallon and depreciate like a Lada. The old landys are classics and in a different price bracket. I'd advertise the beast in a Landy mag for £2K and take it from there. Why not use his restored one for off roading or is it a full rollcage suspension lift and nobbly tyre event??

I just paid £600 for a 87 TD90 with all the parts required to finish it thrown in. 2nd hand 4x4's are plummetting in value Disco's are a prime example. 93/94models have halved in value in 12 months
 
Buy a used LAND ROVER SERIES II - Auto Trader UK Bear in mind that these are asking prices not actual values esecially The last one :eek: :eek:

I know about the disco prices cos I have a 1990 Disco thats worth loads more in bits than a whole car but surly the series isn't going to be stung in the same way especialy if its a tax exempt?? (Dont know if the one were talking about is tax exempt or not tho) Excelent price on the 90 but my point is you can still go to a Landy dealer and buy a brand new 90 where as the series you cant. Its a bit different and they havent been made for absolutly donkeys now. This would demand a premium wouldn't it??

Only to a series fan. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying There worthless but with the nmber of 4x4's available and the saturation of the 2nd hand 4x4 market everything is going to suffer price wise. even Series Landies which is why I said unless it's got something special he'll struggle to get a good price.
 
Good point and just looked at the autotrader link. Scary:eek: . Clicked on series 3 and the prices start about the same but jump masivly. The first tax exempt thats for sale not by a trader is £2500 with a lumpy front wing, non origional green respray out side and origional pastle blue inside with camo seat covers.... Hmmmm nice. Not the car that should fetch a premium.

So Galvo chassis, mint bulkhead, straight tidy resprayed body with standard interior £2000 ish or an Mot'd runner for £600-700 upward.
 
Series 3 prices are dropping but series 2 /2a are tax exempt and according to LRM there prices are stable.
 
Does it say owt about tax exempt series 3's or are all series 3's droping regardless of tax status? Hopfully being tax exempt mine will hold its value a bit better.
 
im screwwed then. My 1973 S3 bulkheads in need of replacement, and i need a new wiring loom, plus another 50 or so small parts. Is going to be around £400 parts. Doesnt even look worth doing from this thread, I dont want to loose £1000's!

Was going to strip to chassis, replaint everything, renew bulkhead/wiring, and any other dodgy bits along the way. Even though the chassis is good, doesnt look like its worth more that £900 when its done from this, was expecting around £1500!

Depends how well you do the restoration As I said if it stands out from the crowd it'll fetch a good price. But if it's a run of the mill vehicle that's ok but not great then your not gonna get £2k for it. However if it looks like this you probably will LAND ROVER SERIES 2A SAFARI 109 COMPLETE on eBay, also, Land Rover Range Rover, Cars, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 12-Jan-08 21:21:04 GMT)
 
I recon theres still got to be people out there who appreciate what goes into the stripping of and making good a series and are willing to pay that bit more for a tidy one as opposed to a rusty patched up runner but until it goes up for sale who knows. Anyway I havent even finished rebuilding it yet and when I do I dont want to sell it. Its made me bleed and must be punnished by being thrown about on Pay and Play days to cheer me up :D

The other thing you have to think of is how many different types of clasic cars would not be on the road now if it were all down to cost. For me its the love of Landy and wanting one I know is solid and not a potential death trap thats had bitumen sludge slaped over the gaping rot holes in the chassis with the starter rewired using an old kettle flex. When Its done It will be spot on and you will know it
 
A 62 is tax free, i think its worth more than some are saying, also it looks like a 88" from the pic ?

A well restored tax free for anything close to 1,000 is a steal, I have a SIIa diesel tax free in "reasonable" nick, i would not consider less than 1400 for it, the tax free makes a diff as does the history side

Even that one aint perfect ;) is that rust or muck on the driver and pasenger door hinge :rolleyes:
