Hello,

My 200tdi 90 seems to have a very bizarre problem. If I stop with the vehicle on an incline (engine pointing up hill), it will idle terribly. The idle speed will drop below the low idle rpm as governed by the idle speed adjustment bolt on the injection pump and the engine will begin to "bobble" about, almost like it isn't firing properly on all four cylinders. If I stop my 90 on a flat surface, or with the engine pointing down hill, it will idle flawlessly and at a significantly higher rpm (as governed by the idle speed adjuster). I have fitted all new fuel lines, from the pickup pipe in the tank, through the entire fuel system, back to the fuel return which also sits in top of the tank. New fuel filter, fuel filter head, lift pump, injection pump, injectors, injector pipes, leak off pipes, timing, head gasket and the works. The tank is also clean - no mucky bits floating about inside so what in the hell is up with my landy?

Another thing which may be of interest - as I come to a stop on a flat surface or a downwards slope, if I pull up my handbrake before the 90 has come to a standstill (so that the entire vehicle rocks back and forth quickly on the transmission), the engine seems to rev up as it rocks forward and then drop off a little as it rocks back. And no, the throttle cable isn't being adjusted somehow.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
-Tom

If it makes you feel better my fuel gauge ain't worked in months and the sender is new, tank is new, gauge is new.
It's must be dead wires so gonna run new wires.

I'm afraid that does not make me feel any better - I've got to run new wires from the fuse box to the lights at the back

sounds like a weak fuel pump, blocked filter or sedimenter or air being drawn in. Gravity is making the fuel harder to be drawn up and out of the tank when yer landy is pointing uphill.

The lift pump is in good order, it's a new delphi unit. It was off and tested about 3 weeks ago. I'm convinced it's something to do with the fuel return system but I can't figure out what.
