Got a phone call off the garage who's doing my quarter chassis on Betsy-he's had to fabricate large piece of rail for the near side chassis as its rotten as ****. Thing is the offside looks mint! Knew I should av saved for a full galv job!

Funny that coz when I did the sill on my discovery, one side was gone completely as in NOTHING left and the other side only needed a patch the size of a mobile phone.

Sounds like it is going to be expensive!

Thats funny cos when I went to do my sills, they'd disappeared!

just had the rear cross-member and outriggers replaced on my sisters 90

Cross-member £100
Outriggers £40
Labour £150

so a lot cheaper than a galv chassis and should get a few more years out of it

Well it's cost me £296 for the quarter chassis which looks well made including delivery and was originally £200 roughly for fitting but think this will go up now cos of the other work-I didn't want all plates patched all over it as she does a LOT of heavy towing-il put some pics up when I get her back.

If you do a lot of towing, would it not have been better to put a new chassis under the vehicle? I'm sure you would have a better frame of mind with a complete chassis than having a part welded on.

How much cheaper is that ^^ compared to a galvanised chassis?

Considering the price of waxoyl (other effective rust proof systems exist ) it looks like it's a pretty cheap option?

Ultimately it is a stop gap measure.

But she simply did not have the cash for a galv chassis at around £1000 when this came to around £300 and should get her through at least another few years while she saves up and finishes getting qualified as a nurse.

Ideall yeah a galv chassis is what I wanted but I'm sure your talkin another £500 minimum for fitting it. I can't afford to have it off the road any great length of time as its used for work and I'm sure it's still gonna work out cheaper than chassis swap.

If you have the space just fit it yourself...

Unbolt the body and disconnect the wiring and then lift the body and roll the chassis out from underneath.

Fit engine/gearbox/axles onto the new chassis, connect the wiring and drop the body down onto it.
