My bought 110 roof rack sit's 10cm above me roof, Why ?????

The only reason I can think off is so that you can still open the leaking siliconed up sunroof that we don't open anyway :(:(

I would like to take it off, chop & weld so that it fit's flush, maybe 1cm above the roof my only worry is that it might create some strange noisey windy vortex that's gunna drive me mad

Anyone ?

Cheers

Jason

My Hannibal rack sits about an inch and a half above the roof at the rear. Just enough to get your hand. Obviously there is a bit more clearance at the front cos the roof has a slope in it over the front seats. No excessive wind noise from mine. The gap between the rack and the roof is handy for tying things on or washing the roof.

Cheers shifty good point, I agree that it should'nt be to close to the roof to enable fastening stuff down .

Had a mate that once decked his roof-rack out with plywood and the noise was so bad afterwards that he had to make a little spoiler at the front to deflect the air over the top and not let it go in between the rack & the roof !

A solid sheet of plywood would not let the wind through which would cause noise issues as well as trying to take off at speed. Most racks dont have a solid deck for that reason.

Because firstly I think it looks stupid 6" stuck up in the air above the roof, less chance of tw@tting branches/getting stuck under fallen trees whilst off-roading & most importantly to get the centre of gravity down when it's loaded up to the gunnels!!

Doesn't look high to me, looks pretty much the same as every other Defender rack of that style.

But if it does bother you then lowering it wouldn't take a lot of work, assuming you're alright with a welder. Doubt it would make any difference to wind noise, might make it quieter if anything

Only a French short fry would say that
