My little brother recently purchased his own Disco 2 and would like to put a light bar across the factory roof racks. I don't personally have that setup on my Disco so I haven't down it. I don't have a problem with the installing the lights or hooking up the electrical. What I do have a problem with is running the wires from the top down into either the engine bar or into the cabin. Here's the catch. I'm not drilling holes into any of the painted sheet metal nor am I running wires the length of the rain gutters.

I'm looking for wire running suggestions preferably with pictures to get ideas for this install. Any advise is appreciated.

Has he got a snorkel? if so run the wires down the side of it and in to the engine bay where the snorkel enters the wing.

If he hasn't got a snorkel and you don't want to drill holes or run wires down side of the A post or along the gutter. That you'll have to tell him he can have the light bar but he can't have them wired up. They'll look cool but they just won't work. Unless you can invent Wireless Lights overnight.

No he doesn't have a snorkel.

I was afraid it would come down to something like that. I'm going to try and take off the driver's side factory roof bar and see what kind of holes are below that. I may be able to just dropped the wires through there and put a little silicon to help reseal the piece.

you could drill a second hole under the roof bar mounting plate. But you'd have to cut a slot in the base of the mounting for the wires to fit under without it nipping the wires.

That I would have a problem with. I just didn't want to have a big hole with sealant sitting in the middle of my roof line. Not to mention if he ever goes to sell the car i can just replace the driver's side rack and it's no harm done.

I'm going to try and take that off today and see what lies beneath.

theres 2 bolts that go through the roof and into the base of the roofbar mount. apart from that it's identical to a normal disco with out roof bars.

Is it your disco or your brothers?

It's my brother's.

That's perfect.

Let me ask you this. Is roof lighting like this very common in the UK? It seems as though not many people have lighting bars on top of their vehicles.

It's illegal to use roof mounted lights on a public road in the uk but people do fit them for when their off road.

or ask the defense dept if theyve got a forcefield generator and yer could rig it over the hole and that'd stop the rain from getting in.

Of course the whole fooking car is gonna fall to pieces with tin worm in a couple of years.

Do we look like HGV drivers? Ask on a truck forum. But I will tell you it isn't illegal to fit them only to use them.
