I have a droning noise coming from my 35,000 mile 2003 Freelander 1.8. All is well up to about 30mph, then there is a droning like a wheel bearing going. It doesn't seem to change the faster you go, or in corners. I can't really tell where the sound is coming from. It has not been off road, or had any knocks etc. Tyres were all new last year. Defitely not tyre noise as on a super smooth piece of asphalt, the drone really stands out.
I have put it up on axle stands and all wheel bearings seem to feel ok. No rock. I have done the VCU test with the breaker bar, and all seems well there (turning slowly) so hoping diff and IRD also ok.
There are no clonks or rattles or other problems described in threads.
Do you think it could be early stage wheel bearing, or VCU bearings, or something more sinister?
