Wouldn't quite agree with that. Yes it is off-road that they will be most beneficial (with a longer stroke shock) but if you believe the bumf they have a rising rate piston stroke as opposed to the OE which has falling rate. This is supposed to give better dive charateristics under braking. Does it work?

Well it certainly has stiffer springing at lower height than normal whereas the OE's give a more compliant ride at motorway than normal height so I'm inclined to believe teh spring rate attributes. Have I noticed a difference under braking? Ahh not sure, its still a barge:D:D

Right - Todays update!! - do feel free to pull up a chair!

EAS not going up or down - Following aadvice on here have plugged the kicker back in and it's constantly green (Which means no faults I believe?) Pump not working at all, though it will work if you remove the relay from the fuse box and bridge the terminals? any one shed any light.

Also - Datateks lead arrived today. Have purchased a serial port to usb lead but cannot get the laptop to speak to the car - It just comes up with a communication error. Anyone shed any light? I'm not blonde (feisty redhead!) but feel a little dim at the mo!!!

sounds like the thermal switch in the compressor is kaput. compressor wont work at all but if you link the relay terminals the pump will run is the symptoms of thermal switch failure normally due to the compressor overheating because of air leaks.

Bet he isn't it's burried in compressor. Strip some wire back on Orange compressor lead don't disconnect it from plug, wrap a wire on it and earth it, if compressor runs thermal switch is caput. You may have to wait a while for compressor to start. Don't drive car like that though unless you want a fire.

Is it possible it's the Pressure sensor -It's down on the bump stops again and the pump simply wont run unless you bridge the relay....... Thank-you for taking the time to reply
 
OK - We've tested as per this video [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a8Gdsc6880c&feature=related]Range Rover EAS - Compressor Pressure Sensor - YouTube[/ame] and on the first test where he gest nothing we are getting a closed circuit, indicating that the pressure sensor thinks it's up to pressure, when infact the car is on its bump stops. How easy is this to replace?......Would this account for the fault being intermittent??........
 
i would really try what wammers said it will give you a 100% answer if it is the thermal switch rather than it seems to be ok.

I may be wrong, but I think the pressure switch is only measuring the pressure in the tank - not the air lines.

So the fact that it thinks it's up to pressure, yet sitting on it's bump stops might just mean that the tank side of the circuit is very good and the airbag side has a big leak.

I would still expect the pump to come on occasionally though.

It'd be really good if you could get the EAS Unlock software working on your laptop.

I assume you're running XP on it?

Might be worth trying to get another driver for the USB to serial converter - they're notoriously rubbish with the supplied drivers.

I think the RSW solutions website has a whole load of troubleshooting info for the EAS Unlock software, especially comm failures.

Have you tried cleaning the pins in the socket under the glovebox? They can get corroded sometimes.

Only for people without multimeters Nath. It's amazing how many times you say check with multi meter, and you get back i haven't got one. In this case the bloke is well kitted and seems to know what he is doing. Very refreshing.:D:D:D
 
Thanks Kooky. My laptop is running Windows 7. I'm just about to go off to Maplins now to see if I can get another lead - Datatek mentioned that they can be a problem too :( the EAS pump ran when we collected the car on Tuesday, we've been unable to get it to run since though. My mission today is to try and get the software working, then I'll see where we go from there.

SaintV8 - Just waiting for the frost to melt and I'll get some pix of the car D):p
