:confused::confused:Hi Guys & Gals....... following an advisory after the MOT, I have decided to replace all the solid brake pipes to the rear with copper. The pipes across the back axle were a piece of cake, but I see that the two main feeds from the master cylinder disappear under a "Crossmember" which forms part of the body close to the rear air springs and then takes a turn along the r.h.side of the car to the front. The EPC shows two connectors,one for each line, which I cannot see from underneath. If the connectors iare not fitted, that means I have to bend the pipes all in one which will be a work of art, plus have the problem of feeding the pipes-bends and all, from the front, all the way to the back axle.

Your new pipes don't have to be routed the same as the old ones. On my p38 the front to back pipes are fixed on the bottom of the chassis rail & I've had no problems with the MOT.

Thanks for the input. Obviously with the air suspension heights and the body lifting, I am concerned that the flexible hoses fitted to the rear axle may be strained. In addition, I will have to fit clips for the pipes to the chassis and also allow for difference in body to chassis height at the front end where the pipes go to the master cylinder/attenuator block
 
Whilst I was underneath, also noticed rear air springs are shot-cracked and nylon threads poking out. Not bad for 12 years on the car and not an EAS fault message to be seen. Looks like a shopping spree at Island 4X4 for a new set!!
 
Any of you P38 bods seen the connectors??-I cannot see them up as far as the front r.h wheel arch-I will have to take the liner off to see if it's hidden behind. Tell you what-it will be a right pain in the ass if they are not there!! Mind you, I can't see if they are above the suspension air tank-that's coming off as well. I think I will take it down the local and fill it full of Guinness whilst I am at it and run a line into the cab with a tap on the end.:beer2::beer2::beer2:

If you want to do the springs when you're back in Birmingland give us a shout and you can use my garage. I could do with getting mine done soonish and wouldn't mind giving you a chuck to see how easy they are. They aren't too bad but i would rather know they are going to last me than have one go bang unsuspected.:eek:
 
Thanks for the offer Ant...much appreciated mate but we are coming over in the Vectra (Faster & cheaper!!). The "Big Un" will no doubt still be on axle stands over here with big holes where parts should be!! I will still be bringing the "suitcase" over with the Rovacom kit.:clap2:
 
ive got all of this to do tommorrow,i had a look today and i couldn,t see the connectors either,but i did presume they were behind the front drivers wheel arch liner.all the fun of the fair with these motors,got the gearbox to remove yet aswell:eek:
 
Thanks P38....that's a relief, hopefully I will see them when I take the liner off. I might go down the pub now to celebrate-if I can get in, with all the Paddies celebrating winning the Grand Slam!! Doom & Gloom-it's all in the mind:hysterically_laughi
 
Now I'm at it Andy, I have a very slight oil weep at the joint on the Transfer Box casing joint so "In for a penny, In for a pound" (Or Euro)" stuff it, may as well get used to looking at things upside down for a while and do that at the same time.:ballchain:
 
well i,ll settle for the brake pipes first,then i,ll have a think about when to remove the gearbox to do the rear crank oil seal:rolleyes:
 
I priced the two pipes from the flex. hoses just above the rear diff and the Stealers want £38 each-robbing bast***s. Dread to think how much the long ones are, so bought a couple of coils of 3/16" copper tube-already have the flare kit & bender, for £26 from Craddocks whilst I was over in the UK. The ones I have fitted from the hoses to the rear brakes look the dogs bollix and will see me out. Co's the fronts run in the engine bay and are protected , they are as good as the day they were fitted and I'm leaving them alone.
I suggest you buy the copper tube, flare kit and bender-it will save you a fortune. If you are looking at fitting new tube nuts they are M10 X 1.00mm pitch shouldered and available from Ebay at around a fiver for a bag of 50 + post, but I used the old ones which came undone easily but have ordered a bag just in case:tea:.
 
ive always made my own john,copper lasts longer than the steel crap,the first time i ever used a dealer brake pipe on an audi years ago,turned out to be inch short,but that was a long time,i now have a draw full of fittings and brake tools and a 15m roll of copper pipe,as i always end up doing other peoples aswell,bit of pocket money;)

I'll be wearing my best wellies just in case there's any wooly talent in there. Don't know how to disguise the Brummie accent though-they are only sheep-won't know the difference if they are pi**ed though!!:5bparty:
