A but of a convoluted question here. Like most things in my life little seems straight forward.

I am changing the water pump on my 2.5 TD (pre 200) and at the same time fitting kenlow electric fan.

What i need to know is how i should go about this. I dont need the fan off the old pump but I pressume I will need the pulley.

Is it easier to strip before removing the pump (if so any special tools) or just get it off and then strip down.

I moved to Bulgaria a year ago and still have not found the box with my Haynes manual in!!!!!!!

Kind Regards

Andy

Removing the fan is best done before you remove the pump. and is simply a case of unscrewing the fan from the pump. Just remember that to undo it the thread is reversed so you turn it Clockwise to unscrew it. The pulley remains on the pump.

i wud say if u have the space, strip it in place, but i kinda think u gonna ave ta remove and strip.

The fan is only held on to the water pump pulley and little triangular fan mount with four bolts. Mine unscrewed anti-clockwise just like any other bolt. There's no difference between the fan on the 19J and 12J is there?

Is that the fan and pulley Pos or just the fan itself?

I think you'll find you need the pulley leaving on to spin the water pump.

The fan itself is screwed onto the pulley with a reversed thread and has to be unscrewed clockwise to release it from it's mounting.

If yours is the non viscous fan then it will have just the four bolts But I think our original poster was on about a viscous fan.

ok advice on mounting the kenlowe dont use the silly copper pins that through the radiator! They are great and its a quick way to mount it but it will sub through the sad in time Jai

ok advice on mounting the kenlowe dont use the silly copper pins that through the radiator! They seem great and its a quick way to mount it but it will rub through the rad in time quicker if you go off road mind lasted 8 months! trust me its far better to make a decent mount that will not rub or touch any part of the fins or internals or the radiator. As for the existing fan i would remove the 4 13mm/ 1/2 inch bolts they are not a reversed thread, get some 8mm washers and pack out the bolts the same thickness that the hub of the fan its quite a bit from memory or if you can get shorter bolts then refit the pulley as normal using the washers/shorter bolts instead of the fan. I always use washers and carry the old fan in emergencies hope this helps Jai

Your right about the old type fan having 4 standard bolts. which are M8 x 55mm long I was thinking he had a viscous fan which unscrews clockwise. Not sure when they changed over. to viscous fans though.

Yeah second that. Dont mount anything to or through the rad fins. It's a quick and dirty way to future problems. The fan unit is heavy and the radiator was not meant to hold that kind or weight - especially if you like to bounce around off road.

I used the frame that used to hold my air con heat exchanger and retained the leccy fan as well. Now I have no air con but plenty of fan power if needed. The reason I binned the air con? The fan had worn the fins away and punctured the matrix. Never worked very well and took up too much room.
