I was wandering can you remove the rear wheel bracket/light and somhow plug the holes so you have better rear visability. Or would it end up leaving bolts holes and electric sockets that water would get into since tried to shoot out of the back of the car once and found the spare wheel and light kept getting in the way.
 
I suspect it will fail the MOT. The high level brake light become mandatory some years ago now.
 
RealBeale has removed the rear wheel carrier from his rally Freelander. I think it is road legal. Best ask him what he has done.

Would be good if it is road legal since don't see the point carrying the extra weight since these days if you get a puncher they tend to plug it at the side of the road also the car has no tool kit with it at present.
 
I had 2 side wall punctures on the same day recently. They could not be fixed...... luckily one of them was a flow puncture or I would have been stranded in mid Wales on a Sunday.

Last time I got a puncture and didn't have a spare. AA sent a local tyre repair company to change the tyre and charged me £65.

Isn't the whole point of having a spare, So that you can change your own punctures. Or are you that frightened of getting your hands dirty?? :confused:
 
Not bothered with getting hands dirty but without a tool kit at present it just sits on the back collecting dead leafs. Anyway sounds like it would cause more trouble than its worth so just have to shoot from side windows in that case and leave it where it is.
 
I've seen a few removed on Freelander, can't think now whether they had other center brake lights. I don't think you need them anyway, you shouldn't fail your mot on the center brake light not working so I don't see why you need one
 
Having a central high level brake light is not a MOT requirement.

There is only a requirement for 2 rear brake lights on a motor vehicle (one if pre 1971).

However if you have one fitted on the car when you take it in for the MOT it must be operational.
