Not sure if this varies with model-year, but on my '88 Tdi, there are two screws holding the arm rest on and 1 small screw hidden behind the door opener handle holding the plastic handle surround in. Then it's just a case of pulling out all the trim clips holding on the two sides and the bottom of the card and then pulling the card downwards so that it slides out from behind the wooden trim at the top. Don't forget to disconnect the speaker wires as the card comes off.
