Yeah it's a TD5. If you go have one knocking about I'd be only too happy to take it off your hands.:)

Cos I only need mine for the rear I managed to get hold of a 2" receiver hitch winch mount off eBay. I'm gonna cut a hole in the DB slider and weld in a bit of tube to slide the receiver into. I can then bolt the back of the winch plate to the DB slider for added strength. I'm hoping I can then use the tow ball or winch as I have a spare slider.

ill look in the parts bin later......

I also thought that I would fashion some sort of capstan type part i can run rope around for lowering..........like a boat mooring point....it would help for super long winch ropes......

so id like to see how your DB ends up and would you beef up the xmember?
 
tirfur is a great piece of simple engineering and i like them, but they are not what I am after. Its also not what many of my future customers will be after I believe.

Dixon bate is also a very simple piece of engineering and works well... but doesnt tick all the boxes for me.

Got a concept 3d model knocked up this morning on inventor so will go with a basic production with that. Basically designed around a cimple "clunk click" seatbelt principle, no parts to lose and just clips in and out with 1 button press.

How do you know?

The seat belt principle is absolutely sound and with suitable engineering and 'beefing up' to suit would be a most excellent idea!

the simple latch mechanism actually takes none of the load of the winching process, its purely there to stop it falling off when driving around. So it mostly has to deal with the weight of the winch (less frictional losses) up to AT MOST 1G? (and to get 1G of cornering force on a landy... youd be crashing at the time)

In an front or rear accident, any load would again be transferred to the frame, not the latch, its in a side impact it would have to deal with higher g loadings, but even 100 odd g would be enought to shear the latch. And you would have bigger issues to deal with anyway. a 100 g sideways impact would eerrr.. hurt...
