I'm nearing my year long rebuild of the Disco, and have so far removed both the dicky seats, and the longer of the 2 bench seats in the back, now leaving me with just the one in the back and the 2 in the front. On reading the DVLA site, they say I need to inform them of the changes.
Question is will this make my tax go up? Or affect my ability to insure it. Is it classed as a modification? Or should I just shut up and say nowt? Also will the mot tester fail me as I have removed the seats and seatbelts? Any opinions? Cheers guys.

Its a change , but not one that will result in a classification or duty change so irrelevant to Swansea . The mot tests what is there so if no seat and no seat belt its not going to affect that either . The insurance co I would advise , but seeing as its a lowerering of possible liability cant see that its going to interest them either . JMHO

id keep quiet in case you ever want to put them back again, i'm taking the back seats out of the disco, but will keep them in the shed just in case i need them again in the future

Hi
I have taken the seats of of my present D2 and RR Classic. I refitted them in my
previous disco just to sell it. No comment at MOT time as for the last 8 years.

Insurance wise, unless they know about the changes it'll invalidate your policy as they'll have the motor listed with x amount of seats from when it was 1st registered, so definitely inform them. If it is going to be a permanent thing then you might have to submit the motor for a test via VOSA in order to change the details on the DVLA's database.

things get to serious on here. when you take a car for MOT they can only MOT the things that are present in the car. and you cant move anything. i.e if you take a normal 5 seat car in with a child seat plugged in you cant move the child seat so you can only test the seats you can get too. Same as if you fold them down. All it means is that there was X amount of seats at time of test

Now if you folded your seats down in your standard car to take things to the tip. you are traveling with different amount of seats as what is in your MOT.

I say bollocks to it. Dont declare it to DVLA incase you want to put them back in. Doesnt matter in your mot because as i said you can have all 5 seats bolted in but if you have a child seat in then they wont count it and if ya get stopped then i cant see the avereage copper being that anal unless you rode over his bonnet

Fair enough, but what if OP was in an accident with another vehicle ... upon inspection by the insurance co. he'd then have his policy invalidated. Believe me I'm all for sticking one up on the authority's but not at the expense of another "Joe Bloggs".

It will not invalidate his insurance by removing seats , as several vehicles these days can be variable seating capacity , eg Chevrolet tacuma , 2 seats (front ) and then either 1 , 2 or 3 rear seats , dont even need spanners to do it . Furthermore DVLA do not record the number of seats other than in certain special categories , so will not be able to amend their records as they dont have any . Hope that makes it clearer .

Ah right seem's I might have been given some mis-information when I was thinking of removing my "dickie" seat's.

Apologies if I've confused the issue .

Right thanks for the input guys. I think what i'll do is not bother with DVLA as they probably wont care as stated earlier. Mot doesn't matter so cool. The only people I'll bother to inform is insurance, and thats no issue as it not currently insured, so I can just tell them in a few weeks when I get around to it! Thanks one and all!:D
