Hi Ive got an 02 freelander Td4.The red battery light kept flickering on and off to start with and now it is staying on permanently . Anyone else had this and what does it mean?

auxiliary drive belt slipping

alternator failing

diode pack on alternator failing

bad earth on alternator

and so on, good luck

Get yr alternator looked at as your battery is NOT charging! That's what the red light means.

Probably the contact brushes worn through....

I would put a multimeter across your car battery and measure the voltage on idle. If its less than about 14.5 volts it points to an alternator problem.

Check the condition of the belt. My Galaxy did this when the clutch in the pulley seized.
