Hi Guys, i was just wondering, i'm new to the off roading scene and am going off roading sunday. I need to get some recovery points fitted to the Defender 90 1991. Where do I get recovery points from and where do they fit onto the landy?

hey bud im new too, the lads on here sure know what they are on about tho so your in good hands. the best recovery points on my 110 are on the steering guard at the front and there is a heavy duty 'ring' bolted to the chassis under the rear that i use. its got me this far!

have fun and dont go alone, trust me its no fun being stuck on your own!! haha
 
i use jate rings front and back, there cheap and good enough for the military
 
You want jate rings.

There are 2 flavours of them. Forged ones and welded ones.

Forged is best.

dont rely on the factory rings you find on the rear and sometimes on the front. I have seen these fail due to massive force from being stuck in deep mud. use forged jate rings and rated/tested shackles with a proper recovery rope and you will be safe.
Its not worth scrimping on recovery kit!
 
how do they fit with steering guards etc? as the standard towing eye bolts hold the steering guard on :confused:
 
some do allow fitment and some dont. thats why most steering guards now have some sort of recovery point on them. Personally i do without a guard and use the jate rings a i'm not a lover of welded recovery points. some of the welding i've seen looks like its been done by a 90 year old blind japanese woman!

That depends on the type of steering guard. They will fit with some but not others. it is often better to get a steering guard with built in recovery points to be sure.

fitted the heavy duty one from paddock to mine, the sides are 10mm steel which should do. they do say its not galved but mine was when it turned up, which was a bonus

cant say i noticed but cant say i checked either, will be spending most of tomorrow on the motor fitting my rock sliders i got for ianotts:D and my new mantec snorkel:D so ill have a look
 
you can also get a steering guard with recovery eyes and then just hang shackles from there...
the sides of the steering guard bolt through the chassi..

just like i have on my 90
