Hi all, newbie here awaiting a flaming.

Have searched the site and found different ideas but here goes.

My 1999 rusty chassis D2 TD5, which is the best method of recovering another vehicle? I would like to have recovery points both front and rear without them costing the earth.

Could you guys tell me,
a) where I would fit jate rings front and rear with the standard bumpers fitted along with a hardly used fixed towbar,
b) whether it is possible to use the towbar mounting frame to attach a strop/rope to,
and c) where is the best place to buy a basic rope setup for the recovery of my van if it should get stuck in winter, fwd 2.7t fully laden.

Ps I pulled a car out of a ditch recently near home, but the guy who owned the car just looped the halfords tow rope through the triangles in the towbar frame.

Thanks in advance guys, I am trying to get setup to go green landing next spring, so would like to turn up prepared.... 👌
 
Jate rings fit on the chassis thru the holes where the lashing eyes fit. and can be used with the std bumper. Though the under skirt gets in the way. You might want to cut it short if you intend to go greenlaning.

You can use the towbar if you want. But never never put the rope against a sharp edge. the guy you recovered was a Knob.

There's lots of threads on recovery equipment and lots of argument about whether strops or ropes are best..
 
Fast reply there pikey, thanks. Do you know what width the jate rings would need to be to bolt through the original mounts??
 
Shackle or jate ring bolted directly to the chassis every time, Rope can be used but not one from halfords, you would need a proper 4x4 towing rope. Get in contact with a local 4x4 or Land Rover club they may be able to supply you with a decent rope.

Talking from experience, a proper 4x4 rope has helped me to recover many a stranded driver..(thinking, now what the F$%@ am i gona do)...lol

Be concerened with the type of shackle or jate ring you use, cheep metal = bake = injury or damage.
 
Thanks guys, just for noting the Halfrauds rope belonged to the car driver not me.

Saw the Luke seatbelt style recovery points available on one website last night, I thought these would be more suited to a standard car than a 4x4? Am I wrong?

How rusty is the chassis? Personally I would be more concerned about putting that right, than trying to imagine how to hang towing equipment off it !!!

Nothing major, sails through the mot.

Just a bit of surface rust, it was more a jest towards the fact that every D2 we viewed had surface corrosion on the chassis.

Never had a car with rusty bits before I got my D2.

Chassis is in solid form still:dance:

They mount onto the crush can mounts wouldn't be hard to make either
 
Thanks Chezvegas, thats just the kind of reply I was after…Postage is a bit steep though.

Never mind, just need to order more stuff to make it better value for money;)
