I have finally decided to join the land rover group and buy my first used I was hoping for some experienced guidance. All 2 groups are within the same price range so money is not much difference. Main purpose is for camping, hunting, fishing and general off-road. I want to get in and make sure i can get out of an area that has no roads. steep rocks i prolly wont be going over.
both $3500
1997 lifted 3.5" with ome lift, custom lift large tires, alot of little things need repair 300k km. interior in rough shape but expdected for age and usage
1999 stock 150k km
both $5000
2001 stock Land Rover Discovery SE7 200K km
2002 stock Land Rover Discovery SE7 190K km
I was planning on putting an ARB bumper and air lockers. Do all of these require 2 air lockers or just a single (heard something about a single dif on rovers) and raising with ome set for 3" or whatever i can get without major modifications.

are u planning on driving to the summit of mount snowdon?

if not why the fook would u need 2 air lockers?
i had lockers on my rr but that was because i competed in it

its very difficult to give an opinion on summit you dont even have a picture of

nxt thing get yourself over to the intro section and start of properly

Yeah. If you're not going over rocks and stuff, yer usual suspension is fine. That is what they're made for. Unless you just want it for the bling effect. Just buy the best one you can find and look to fit the tyres you want. AT's or MT's depending on your usage I should say.

ARB lockers on a disco that wont need them……..

Thanks everyone for the response. Like i was saying new to the rovers so based on your comments it appears these vehicles are alot tougher then i am use to. Over here in Canada we get tough winters and deep woods. It sounds like air lockers might be overkill then at least 2 of them which saves me some money in the future. I have not done work on cars but handy with tools and willing to read alot and learn and try so hope to save some repair costs with doing the work myself as much as possible.

Thanks again for the comments here are the links for the details you were asking for.

the red one 97 p will do what u want it to do straight away it will also be alot easier to work on and maintain yourself

the 7 seater will be full of electricable gubbins and not so easy to look after and you will need nanocom or hawkeye or similar to diagnose faults

Yep. and I like that one alot. so the newer ones have alot more wiring, the older ones easier to maintain. too bad cant have that one shipped over the price is right and condition is amazing compared to the ones i seen that year. hoping to decide this weekend and get me one really looking forward to it and was considering getting a diagnostic tool for troublehsooting. was looking at the blackbox product or hawkeye for help and to keep with me.

the td5s and v8s are great motors but the earlier 200/300 tdis are just far more simpler to maintain and work on yrself

let us know what ya get and we like piccies on ere,use the search button on ere there is loads of info

just beware of the chassis on a disco 2 they rot like buggery

if your going for the TD5, get the blackbox nanocom
i've got the Hawkeye, but wish i got the nanocom, far more usable than hawkeye...

oh i like the blue one, only because it's like mine :D

3 teenagers fit well in the back seat of a disco, using the 6th and 7th seats in the boot is a last resort for odd occasions.... they aint comfortable and it means youve got no boot space. i took 6 teenagers camping last year we had to take a trailer for the gear and food.

I don't know much about the Canadian car market - are you predominently gas or do you have diesel cars as well?

A little background on Land Rover Discovery:

1989 to 1998 - first Discoveries, 3 and 5 door, 5 and 7 seats (6th and 7th seats side-facing); diesel engines (TDi 200 then TDi 300) and one gas engine v8 4ltr. Gearboxes 5-speed manual (stick-shift) and 4-speed auto

Very good cars, mostly mechanical, robust but a little agricultural. Rust in the bodywork is a real problem with these!

1998 - 2004 Discovery II - all 5 door, diesel 5-cylinder diesel (a peach) plus 4ltr and 4.6ltr gas v8's. 5 & 7 seaters (6th & 7th seats front facing).

More refined, more electronic. Rust can be a real problem in the chassis with these.

Both are easy to work on, but the newer cars need an electronic diagnostic ($450)

Both are great vehicles, need lots of preventative maintenance so you must be able to look after them yourself - garages won't be as thorough as you will be.

Really need to know more about what is available in your part of the world before getting down to details.

Good luck

Dave

Well you got me there.

In this context there are two things I know little or nothing about:

V8 Discos

The Canadian car market.
