i've got a rebel steering guard on my series 3 and the quality is great, its 5 mm thing the welding is very good quality and it was coated in zinc. only problem is the top 2 mounting holes are not quite in line with the chassis holes, nothing a drill couldnt sort mind... definately worth £34 plus a head of postage!

Sorry to bump this thread again....

I just received me steering guard, and am going to tackle fitting it tomorrow.

I had a quick look today and couldn't find an obvious way of fitting it (ie no threaded holes to bolt it into !)

I know that my landy has had a chassis replacement in its time (bob wood chassis IIRC)

How is the guard fitted on your landies ? I am thinking that I may have to drill the holes ?? hope not !

sounds like you will mate on my series 3 there where all ready 4 holes (2 on each side of the chassis) to bolt it into, get a decent drill bit and drill your own!!! then get some really long screws and put them all the way through the chassis and there you have it 1 fitted steering guard!

I'm guessing that these guards bolt onto the spring hangers. I've seen 2 types of spring hangers on series 3s: One type have 2 holes in them and stretch back almost to the front X-member and the other type are shorter and don't have the holes. He may need to weld on a couple of brackets if he has the latter type of spring hanger.
 
Those gards are good, mines taken a beeting and been used for recovery alot on the tow points. Dident stop the tracking rod getting buggered though!
 
Hi again guys,

Deffo no mounting holes for the guard on me landy.

Can some one take photos of one in situ to give me an idea where to mount it (to drill holes or create some sorta bracket) mounting/welding it under the bumper would be easiest but not the strongest place... I do want it the guard to be functional, not just for show :)

These are 2 different type of front spring hangers fitted to SIII chassis. I'm guessing that the steering guard has been designed to fit the one on the right. If I were you I would find some rectangular pieces of 5mm steel, drill mounting holes in them, bolt them to the steering guard, then position the guard in the correct position using a bottle jack. Next weld the mounting brackets to the chassis.

Is rebel stuff OK? I saw one getting welded back together at Drumclog in September and it looked beat.

And what's with the no callers ****e? No address on their website. Do they hump ya for postage ebay stylee. £34 but £25 to post it :eek: Mind you better than £75 and 25 for post :D
 
i got one on my disco and it is 5mm thick and welds look really good. i know its not a series but i am posting on the quality of the item. i have bashed mine about a far bit and its took it all with no visible splits to the welds or metal anywhere.
