Viscous Coupling Unit, acts as a centre diff lock. When it seizes, a common problem, it stresses the diffs, it's usually the front one that fails first as it also has the steering load.

If you bought it from a dealer it's their problem, sale of goods act, not of merchantable quality etc. Search for the crock of **** thread.
Will be having a chat with the dealer tomorrow see what he's prepared to do before I start any kind of action ..... To be honest I would prefer a repair/ replace course of action rather than my money back, as I would have to go thru the rigmarole of finding another one and who's to say that wouldn't be the same ....... Bought dec 7 th 2012 and I've done less than 300 miles in that time so I don't see they have much of a leg to stand on ..... Still I'm sure they will try it on

Rang dealer this morning, explained what had happened, he said leave car with us and we will get it sorted f.o.c. Will call u when it's done ........ Very pleasant... Lets see what happens from here
That will cost him a few bob. Make absolutely sure they check the viscous coupling whilst doing the job. It is highly likely that it caused the fail if it is seized.

If I were a car dealer I'd personally steer clear of selling P38s!
