I'm not you are. you asked for advice you got advice. Can I help it if you've spit ya dummy because you didn't like the advice you got.

Actually I have not gotten what I asked for at all, instead I have had you
rabbiting on about how you can park and how you like scooter drivers
up your tailpipe (oo er missus) and your weak attempts to try and get me
thinking and doing things your way when I'm not even the one driving.

But then this is a forum and these things will happen.

Back onto the real topic if anyone has any suggestions on a good place
to wire this in where it will be always on rather than suggestions on
where scooters should park, how to park and how to flex virtual biceps
then please feel free to offer them, they will actually be gratefully received.

You asked for recommendations? I'm recommending ya don't bother, cos it's a pointless waste of time.

You still haven;'t explained what difference having a rearwards facing camera, will make

I got that impression too although honestly he does give sound
advice on other things and at the very least I've been amused here
(yes, none of this banter has been serious, at least on my part and
I doubt on his either)

What difference it would make? To me, none other than where I wire it
as I'm not driving it until probably January...to the driver? Increased rear
visibility - it's that simple. What I don't get is why it seems to affect you so much
that someone should want this when it's not being done to your vehicle ;)

I can't stand those stupid eyelash things girls keep putting on cars
but I don't go on a crusade over it and if one asked how to fit them
I would probably help simply because it's their car and they can do
what they want with it.

Well If I can't convince ya of ya folly..

Find an ignition switched live (fag lighter springs to mind. and run a fused feed from that. :p

I knew ye had it in you, thank ye koindly sir!

Now I can make the in-law happy and keeping her happy
means I end up on the insurance ;)

Now then... what's the best way to fit pedestrian airbags, devices to gently catch butterflies that may splat on the windscreen and an exhaust filter to save the fwuffy bunny wunnies?

(please don't hit me Redhand I'm just kidding hahahaha)

All of my electrics run off additional aux fuse boxes. The pointless rear view camera/monitor is wired via a "three way switch" and operates.....

1 - permanently so the DVD input to the monitor can allow DVDs to be played.
2 - with reverse engaged.
3 - with ignition on.

As above really and aslong as all it does is show a rear view it becomes an electronic rear view mirror! So completely legal. My dad had one in his old van and he checked to make sure it was legal.

I had one fitted to my jumbo transit after some pillock in a new Lexus parked right up my arse one day when I was dropping the kids off at school (same kit as auf weidersen), I looked in my mirrors and saw nothing and then reversed..... Just glad it wasnt a little kid.

Its handy at night when its ****ing it down and the wing mirrors offer poor visibility.

That's exactly why I fitted mine.

Hey Auf,

Any chance of a run down of the fitting and the sourcing of the gear you used for the cam and light - I'm thinking that'd be damn useful when I'm out with the scouts down the forestry travelling the local fire/access tracks to our favourite camping/activities sites - especially when having to reverse back a fair way because we stumble across some shaggers!

Quite amusing with 4-5 11-14 year old lads, as you can imagine!

These are the basics...

7 INCH Headrest Monitor for Car Reversing Camera Headrest Monitor UK Stock | eBay

This monitor is the same as mine but half the price I paid. It has two inputs so could be used with two cameras. I use a DVD for the second input.

CAR BUS REVERSING SYSTEM KIT 7" COLOR TFT MONITOR + CCD CLEAR REARVIEW CAMERA UK | eBay

I bought mine seperately but this is the sort of thing I've got. Again cheaper!!

2*CCD Reverse Camera + 7" LCD Monitor Car Rear View Kit for Bus Truck | eBay

With two cameras.

You'll need a 15m video cable to get from front to back. I have three small switches at the top of the lip under the steering wheel. One is permanent 12v, one reverse switched and one ignition switched. I use ignition switched almost permanently.

The picture is great most of the time. The bad times are direct sun on the camera, spray/water on camera or when some muppet is right up your chuff with their headlights on.

PM if you have any more Qs.

Ok, picked up a rear view camera as the in-law wasn't so happy about rear visibility (kids walking out and so on, I can see her point).

It's all simple enough, attach camera and monitor, run video wire then hook it into the 12v wiring, my question is where would be best? Our has the full-length console with all the electrics above the seats so should I hook it into the courtesy light/sun roof electrics? If not, what is recommended?

From having a bit of a search there aren't any legalities around having it on all the time that I could see. As far as wiring you could take a live feed from either sunroof or interior light but pending what current it requires could create problems for those items if it overloads the fuse. I would take it from cigar plug as it is designed to have power consuming devices attached to it.

Cheers mate, with the sunroofs there is no issue using it as neither are working and the wiring would be easier but I will probably take it from the lighter socket anyway :)

Cheers Auf,

What about the light - that'd be hugely useful!

I could probably save a bit by only needing the camera - already have TV/Monitor thing bolted to the map holder for the sprogs to watch stuff - it has no end of inputs on it.
