After the air con question here is another one.
I have a vibration at speed which I think could be the rear donut.(Been on for 12 years) So I want it changed, together with the spigot. Mechanic agrees to do it, no problem. Then I ask if he can change the UJ at the same time. I will get the parts from Rimmers so I can be sure of the quality.He tells me not to give him the cross shaped bit ( Shows me a picture on E bay just in case i am stupid). Bring him the whole unit ( picture again) as fitting just the UJ is only half a job..Is he right or am I being fed bulls···t ?

but bring him?

If so, and if the prop has no significant wear in the splines or yolk, then yes, he is taking the **** imo

Yes Trax, that is the part I thought I would be providing..I think its even the same picture !
That propshaft section is the part he wanted me to provide.
The "Inspection" consisted of a two second glace, fag in mouth, underneath when it was still on the ground.
Time to find another mechanic.

Rear uj is easy, front prop rear uj's are a pain in the ass and take abit more skill

Skill is a bit of a rare thing aroud here. I have just been up to our local garage to interpret for a mate who has a Renault Traffic. It was in to get a failed injector changed. They tried all day to remove it, lifters ,heat, slide hammers, lifters again, acid. No luck.
Final solution...Weld an old gear cog to a monster bolt, fix the bolt into the top of the injector. Remove the bonnet, fix a chain to the gear cog at one end and a JCB front bucket at the other end. Fill the van up with as many people that will fit in it. Lift the JCB bucket in a sharp movement...PING! injector out...Thats our skill level !!

Sounds to me like you need to do/learn to do your own mechanicking! Replacing the rear U/j and rubber doughnut should only about 45mins to one hour. Very straightforward jobs to do.

On the plus side, he is a good mechanic. Vehicles here are considered "tools" and treated with no respect. They have a job to do. When they break he mends them. He will never change. His number two is getting better and has even taken to cleaning grease and oil marks of the vehice when his finished. He is the only garage in the area, the guy I was talking about earlier in the post is over a hours drive away and seeing his attitude to the propshaft issue, not worth the petrol.
