The rear step on my 200tdi 90 got bashed and in the process of getting it off I managed to shear off both bolts...



What's left of the bolts is now well and truly seized. I have tried getting them out with WD40, drilling, bolt extractors (breaking my tap wrench in the process), hammer, chisel .... ! There can hardly be any bolt left at this point. Any ideas ? Anyone know what thread they even are (or were) ?

Is there an alternative way of fitting a step ?

Post a picture and can help. Does it bolt to the crossmember or tow bar etc etc??

drill to allow an easyout then plenty of heat being cautious of anything flamable including rubber mounts (bushes etc go up quick) then get the easyout to bite tight then using a smallish hammer rapidly hit the easyout squarely on the top as you apply turning pressure.
this has worked for me recently when I snapped my rear shock bolt flush in the rear beam of my cavalier and saved me having to source a complete rear beam.
just keep the turning pressure just less than what you feel is going to snap anything then keep hitting and it should release the snapped bolt(s)

Be careful hitting an Easyout as they can shatter, with bits flying off faster than your reactions!

Wear eye protection!

Thanks - I'll give that a go. Had one shatter before so I'll be careful

Does anyone know what thread size the holes are ?

I only used my pin hammer so nothing big and it was rapid sharp hits with not much force so not like a 14lb sledge at full bore just more to vibrate to assist the easyout. it was the first easyout that i have had any success with
