Hi all. What in your opinion is the best item to fit for rear recovery.

I have no rear towing eyes to change for jate rings as they have been welded up when fitting new rear cross member.

I dont have or want a towing bracket.

All advice gratefully recieved

Well you could do worse than a towball directly in your xmember.
if you dont want a tow point. and refuse to fit jates then your asking us how do you fit somthing you refuse to nor want??? confused?

Not saying I dont want jates. Am saying I do not have the holes for jates as rear crossmember and short legs have been replaced and looks like recovery point holes have been welded up.

Is cross member strong enough to take a towball just for recovery

depends on how hard recovery is but i would weld plate across rear cross member to reach as far as chassis legs ,as the ones ive seen without have cross member bent

If It was myown motor I would drill holes for jate rings through the double thickness of xmember and old chassis then weld in tubes grind weld flush and then use jates.

Xmember can do similar drill two holes insert tubes weld them in grind the surface weld flush use spreader plates 6mm plate both sides and bolt up. If the xmember has a crush plate or wavey plate internally already then you shouldn't need the tubes but I would fit them meself for peace of mind

Buckshot bent his rear x member with a towball fitted to it trying to get someone out of a mud hole..

Hi, I have recently fitted a Nato pintle to the back of mine using the existing mounting holes and spreader plates.

You could use any type of 4 bolt hitch on this point though.

Youve seen what i have? dixon bate tow ball and bar, mine is bolted into the rear cross member with a 6mm thick steel plate behind and tubes between so it dosent bend the cross member.

I have seen the qtservices one on the link above though, very well made.

I would say Jate Rings all the way as you can then make a bridle up out of an 2mtr 10t strop and thus half the force put on each leg same at the front.

Same here. I then have two drop plates one with a tow pin/ball and the other with standard NATO pintle. I use the pintle fir recovery.
