has any one had any experience with rear light clusters, the problem we have with our is that the side lights don't work, brake lights are fine as are rear fog and reverse, swapped the bulbs for new ones but still no joy, i am assuming that the circuit on the cluster itself has a break in it somewhere but just can't find it.the fault is on both rear clusters .is there an easy fix or a pair of new ones many thanks in advance, ron

I had this with mine, some models dont seem to have the sidelights wired up in the high clusters so i just ran a wire from the lower ones to make them work simple lol

Hi Ron, do the sidelights in the bumpers work ok? If they do, you have a perfectly normal 1998 Disco light configuration.

If you want your sidelights in the pillar cluster to work as well as the bumper ones, you need to replace the pillar lights for an earlier version of TDi 300 or alternatively TDi 200.

Light units can be bought new from Paddocks at about £30 each + vat.

Cheers

many thanks for the advice, greatly appreciated. i just found it very confusing:confused: must be an age thing oh well! back to putting them back in tomorow, once again many thanks, ron.

Easy way to check what light cluster type you have, look for indicators - yellow strip on cluster. If you don't have the indicators on the cluster then you don't have rear lights either. You can get the 200tdi clusters off fleabay quite cheap, and if you're lucky (like me) the wiring connectors are already there to fit the cluster straight in. It can be a bugger to get the clusters out though, cos the screws are in rear awkward positions.

If you want some more recent light clusters, although not a lot try looking for them taken from a 1997MY D1 or even 1996MY on both they were fitted as standard. But then a 1998MY D1 has a high level brake light.
