Just verifying something, will i have to remove the wheel bearing and any seals to get to the stub axle? Those parts are difficult to get where I live

yes hub plus bearings need pulling of the stub axle, bearing nuts is 52mm stub axle bolts 17mm, you need no parts hub comes off with bearings and seal stub axle can be replaced using silicone sealant if oil proof

if you remove hub you will need to reset the wheel bearings which if one nut ie td5 you just tighten ,if 2 nuts ie earlier you tighten the first nut so as just to remove any free play in the bearings, then fit tab washer and fully tighten second nut

td5s use a selectable spacer between the bearings so you cant over tighten the bearings

Success at last, just before i started to unbolt things I tried one more option. I welded a piece of metal to the half shaft using it as a handle. After sometime turning and pulling it came out. Have put in a new shaft and flange. Glad it's over, thanks for the help guys

My flange had become rounded whilst I was driving, so i can only assume that the shaft had become somewhat stuck in the differential. When i tried to reinsert the old shaft it felt like something stopping it from going all the way. After doing this a few times it seemed to be sliding in much easier. New shaft gave no problem

Yeah i am quite the amateur
but with 2 land rovers i have to give it my very best to keep them running
