Been looking round for a solution for carrying all 5 bikes on the fender.
Like the slidy roofrack, so thats on the shopping list (eventually) but not found a solution for the rear that I like.

Theres the drop away rack, but it wont drop with a caravan on the back, so doesnt give me back door access.

Soo, thnking outside the box...

Hows a bout a cheap swingaway wheel carrier, replace the bolts with drop in pins (with a retainer of some sorts to stop em jumping out)
remove the studs for the spare wheel, and bolt on one of them racks meant to bolt onto the spare??

in theory, I should then be able to swing the carrier away far enough to get in the rear door, then take it off when im not carrying the bike, leaving just the brackets behind

Definitely thinking of doing that myself. I go mountain biking a couple of times a week, and have borrowed a Thule tow ball mount carrier. The swing away carrier is lying in the shed and could be fitted with that arrangement.

There was a guy selling cheap spare wheel fitting bike mounts on EBay, but for the sake of the cost of the steel I could do it myself.

Just trying to figure out the best way to make it removable. Square section tube with a pin to release the back bit when not in use?

Sounds good, don't know what the weight limit is on the swing away, pending on the bikes could be quite a bit heavier that a spare wheel? I used to use one that bolted on behind the tow ball was really good but you did lose the use of the back door which is a pain

nah, dont think our bikes weight any where near a spare wheel, they make that carrier to bolt on WITH a spare wheel attached.
