i cannot get my rear door speakers to work. has anyone had this problem with them. does the amp thats bolted on the back fail, can i just put in two other speakers using the existing wiring, thanks:confused:
 
Yes amps do fail and yes you can replace the loudspeakers using something similar.
Do a search as there is a thread on the replacement.
 
the rear speakers are a Subwoofer Amplifier and only has power to it when ignition turned on
check that you have power first, fuse 3 10 amp in the facia fuse box light green orange wire is the starting point

trace it through first

there are only 3 wires from front to back, (well 2 wires and the earth screen) so "just" replacing the speakers is not that easy
 
To the amplifer there's the live supply, the switching supply and the screened audio signal pair the earth is picked up locally.
The live supply to the amplifer is common to the head unit (same fuse) which when switched on supplies the amplifer with the switching supply.

To remove the loudspeakers just undo the bolt eack one has holding it to the mounting plate and unsolder the wires,

Do you have a non std radio unit in the car? If you do, that'll be the reason.
 
I would forget about it tbh. Knowing how subs work, I can say that it's a really bad design and if it did work, it would be really **** anyway. There's a reason why decent subs need a big driver and you certainly won't be getting one of those in your tailgate door!

When I first had my disco it had the standard speakers and omg I almost went deaf in my other ear. I quickly replaced them and what an improvement. Still nowhere near as good as the setup I had in my gaylander but then the gaylander has larger speaker holes.

It would have be good to let us know this in your first post, I don't have a cristal ball.
And for that reason "i'm out" and won't be telling you how to connect your non standard head unit to the existing rear door sub, some one else can do that :D

Hi, I just had the same thing today. Went to a car radio place as I have no idea! I have an Alpine non standard head unit. There is a really great thread on here about changing the subs but I couldn't find the block with the black and red wires in it in my 300Tdi. So, all the guy did in mine was run a live to power the rear speakers\amp (well thats what he said) and heay presto they are on! They sound crap (because they are crap) but at least I can now thing about upgrading them knowing they work! Oh, they only work off the base setting on the head unit - not off the Sub setting. Something to do with not being plugged into the RCA connection on the head unit and just powering the amp. To be honest, it sounds perfectly OK to me!
 
It's a big plug so you should find it some where in the void that housed the head unit.

Is that still going to be there on a standard 300Tdi? I did have a quick look while the guy had the head unit out but could only see the main 2 sets of wires.

The red-black is for the audio so if you have the 'sub' in the back door you will have the plug unless it's been cut off that is, but you will have the two wires... somewhere.
Power supplies to the amp are via the ISO connect block of other wires.
