If I'm reading into this correctly, I just need to remove the seal and bend the flange outwards, so that it will move the rubber towards the upper and bottom rear doors, thus providing a better fit and seal ?

Looking around for a new rear door seal (BHK720020) I found that it costs around £250!!!! 250£ for a piece of rubber!!

I think i'm just going to drill holes in the boot

Yep, only need to do the top corners, at least that's all I had to do.
Put some silicone grease on before you start and shut the tailgate, you will see when you open it where the seal is not touching the tailgate.

It's not usually the seal to the tail gate that leaks it were the seal goes over the lip just above where the tailgates meet because the lip in that area is sometimes angled inwards. Water runs down and under the seal then down into the boot. You need to bend the lip out in this area 5 mm then put a strip of gas tape over the lip for the seal to grip, squeeze the seal up and put silicone in the groove of the seal before refitting it.
