Hi all,

The paint on my back door on my 90 is starting to bubble a bit in places and after yesterday at the jetwash bits are starting to flake off. So after searching on here it sounds like the thing to do is rub down the affected areas, etch prime and then paint. The problem i have is i dont have acess to a compressor or spray gun. I have seen this on ebay: LAND ROVER CONISTON GREEN AEROSOL SPRAY PAINT LRC637 on eBay (end time 17-Feb-11 21:32:52 GMT)
So my question is, what kind of a finish will this leave, i want it to look like a good job so will it look just as if it was done professionally or to get this kind of a finish am i better rubing it down and then taking it to a paint shop and let them paint it?

Thanks in advance

prep, prep, prep, prep and more prep.

When you're ready to paint, take your time and do thin coats, layer it up rather than one rushed thick coat, sand in between to keep a good key. You'll get an alright finish by just bunging it on, to get a great finish takes time and patience.

Good luck :)

it is a cellulose finnish, So will be pretty good, it isnt as hard wearing as 2K, dont paint when its cold or it will bloom(white spots)

Prep is the key fill inperfections, rub down, a few coats of high build primer and rub down again, prime, then spray a little black over it and rub down once all of the black is gone it is perfectly flat,
Then build up the layers slowly with the coloured paint, If it is bare ally you will need to use etch primer first or the paint wont stick

Thanks for all your advice guys. So just to clarify rub down, filler, rub down, few coats of high build primer, rub down, black paint, rub down etch prime, spray a few light coats... or something on the lines of that?! Also what should i use to rub down, what kind of grade? Cheers
