Has anyone done a brake overhaul on their tdi 300?

I need to change the rear off-side pads which have worn to metal and notice that the near-side pads still have plenty of wear - I have a feeling it's not just a case of pad replacement, maybe the pistons are buggered....

I'm wondering if I should buy a piston repair kit(s), or buy a new set of calipers to 'spruce' the rear up a bit. Has anyone used Britpart replacement calipers? I know they can be ****e, but some of their stuff is useable.

I think the general rule of thumb with ****part is "if it doesn't have moving parts, its fine. If it has moving parts in it, keep clear!"

quite often ,had he odd one i had to put a fresh seal in but is an easy job on a new caliper, i would think about fitting new calipers ,discs, pads with retainer kit

I've done it on mine, discs, calipers and pads. It's a straight forward job. You might have to do the brake pipes as well. Again, not difficult.
You don't say, but you do realise that you should replace parts from both sides don't you?

Before you jump in spending loads of cash on replacement parts I would strip and clean everything, often uneven wear on pads can be simply down to an accumulation of crap stopping things moving as they should.

That's true enough...

However, if I end up with a stripped down Disco (1997) that needs new parts, I end up with the damn thing off the road for another week+ whilst I wait for parts.

Best to give it some lurv!

Has anyone made their own brake pipes up?

I see plenty of pipe and connectors on ebay - I guess the end connectors are olive joint fixings?

Hmmmm. I don't see anything from my searches, but I guess it's not too difficult to cobble something together...another chance to practice my French at the local garage supplier.

I'll be posting a 'how to' with pics when I get my bits delivered from the UK so hopefully anyone else changing Discs, calipers and pads can learn from my mistake(s).
