Does anybody know if these are required by law? I'm fitting a bench seat down one side of my utility 90. I'm pretty sure they are, but i thought i heard some sort of excemption to this somewhere? :)

If inward facing you don't need them. If you want them you are only allowed to fit lap belts, 3points on inward seats are illegal.

tip:
dont fit lap belts

nice hip injuries (twist... shoulders try to face forward, hip cant. ouch)

and no young children in side facing seats - seatbelts or no seatbelts

Also strictly speaking you need to tell your insurers

It comes up as a station wagon with mine I think anyway. And nowhere on any documentation for the landy does it say about the number of seats.. But I agree, the thought of what could happen if someone had a belt on is not nice at all..

Even if its more than say a 3 seater and say a 90 body ????

You mean reg children or insurance?

reg children:
no children in side facing seats, unless driving dead slow with no other cars in a 10-mile radius!
20-40kg cannon balls hurt the back of the drivers head!

if you were hit from the side with a lap strap, ive been told that the bottom of your spine would detach from your pelvis, i still have them though..

Was going to tell the insurers about it, although its registered as a 3 seater, i don't want to get bollocked for it having 4 people in!

I have a folding seat in the rear of my 90 with lap baelt it never gets used told the insurance company and it only costs me £20 a year extra
