Ok just had my Td4 3 door Land rover for a week now and think it's great. Problem is I came from a BMW. Now this machine is just covered in rattling noises. The roof is the main area. It's a hard back that comes off. Is there a way that I can take off the linnning and put in foam or rubber to reduce the panel noises or even tighten it up if this can be done !
I do turn up the radio most of the time but now and again I need to listen to my girlfriend Not too often thank god ! LOL

Hi Taekwon i also have a td4 3 door have never had the roof off , but i haven't got any rattles or any noise at all, think maybe your rubber seals are shot worth having a look to see what the problem is, the only reason I'm answering yer thread is just to let you know that as far as I'm aware this is not normal, hope ya get it sorted mate. . .

I have to agree with Ming - I came from a Renault Scenic to the Freebifter and I found it quieter that the Renault. Its not unbearable with the softtop on to be honest - any other mods done to it?? - bigger wheels / tyres that may be causing road-roar?

My mate had a 3 door and I was gobsmacked how much creaking and rattling the roof did. Last summer I stripped the interior from my 5 door and sound deadened the entire lot and now it is near silent apart from the diesel which sounds like its about 30 ft away!

Our 1999 3dr HB used to creak a lot, mainly from the roof - I was forever unclipping and reclipping the 4 fasteners to see if the roof would 're-seat' better on its rubbers following a little lift - it didn't. Our 2001 5dr was (as you would expect) far better as there is generally more fabric and no removable parts.
The current 2003 3dr HB (though Softback as of last week, in time for the rain) is far better than the 1999 model - I have never thought it to be particularly creaky, I don't know if materials or spec changed over the 1999 model or whether it is just good luck?
