Hi there!

I wonder if anyone can help with diagnosing a rattle i have? Its on my defender 90, when im at normal driving speed i lift off the throttle there becomes a 'heavy mechanical' rattling noise. could this be excess play in a drive shaft? Iv been under and had a look (when stationary of course) and given the both drive shafts a twist by hand with very little play. Not enough in my mind to make this kind of rattle.

Has anyone experienced this and found the problem?

Any help would be most appriciated.

Thanks mate it never crossed my mind! I want to go out and check it now but its going dark ha! Itl be my first job in the morning!

UJ's. Give the prop shafts another hearty tug in all directions, there should be NO play in the joints in them. If there is any then it could quite probably give this much noise.

Yep exhaust is a common cause of low rev rattling, my exhaust was doing nthe same the other day, after welding the middle silencer backet back on and re securing the heat shield below the gearbox my rattlings gone..... for now!! :D
