anyone help.recently got a range rover 2.5 dse changed the engine .put the bmw omega engine in which works fine but it will not go into drive. gearbox is fine .new to range rover so any advice would be appreciated thanks

What do you mean by "won't go into drive!? Do you mean you cannot physically select D with the lever? Or do yo mean that having sleceted D nothing happens? Can you select 1, 2, & 3? If so see the thread about the sprag clutch for 1st gear.

you can select all gears but its not moving

One possibility is that the transfer box is in neutral. If it has had an engine failure it may have been towed. To tow you put a fuse in fuse 11 under the drivers seat which selects transfer box neutral. If fuse 11 is there, remove it, with the gear lever in neutral also. Look at the dash for messages.

dont know your experience with cars and autos but did you make sure the torq converter was in properly?

Yeah I am having lots of fun with autos too, heard on my travels that if you dont get the shaft in properly you can trash the pump in the process of fitting it and then it doesnt work from day one.

I hope that hasnt happned to you mate!

you have to rock the converter too and fro about 3 times so it locates properly otherwise it really trashes the pump!!!

Is that when you are putting the torque converter on the box or the box and the torque converter onto the engine output shaft?

torq to box, then if you wedge it through the inspection panel (circle) under the g/box just to keep it in place while you put the engine on!!
