Hi, can anyone help me? I have a 2005 Range Rover Vogue that's just decided to be a silly bugger. When I put it in drive its shaking like mad and not go into low box. Speed isn't there and struggles most of the time to move. I have had new injectors 2 months back, and I have now just replaced the gearbox sump and filter (along with the gasket and oil) and its still shaking when in drive. when its in park its absolutely fine. Just when in drive. I have now been told its either the torque converter or transmission fluid? can anyone please help me?
 
Have you checked the turbo hoses for security? They tend to blow off and you loose power and the engine runs rough when loaded up.

Aside from that, it could indeed be the torque converter ...... does the engine rev up when in gear but the car doesn't accelerate with any urgency (like a slipping clutch) or does the engine struggle to build up the revs and judders....??

If the engine is struggling, then I'd point to more the engine being the issue.....if it revs up but slow to get the vehicle moving, then it could be the torque converter friction material being worn.

What condition was the oil in?? and I trust they used genuine filter and the correct (vitally important) fluid when changed....it MUST be the correct grade of oil else it can trash the box.
 
T/C (Torque converter) is fluid driven, at least until 56mph whereby the T/C lock up clutch come's into play and gives direct drive.

I struggle to fathom a T/C fault other than a lock up issue.

Below 56mph what can go wrong? Wrong oil or low oil pressure is numero uno I'm guessing, but what else can go wrong with a T/C below lock up speed?

Issue is upon engaging drive, that's surely not T/C.:confused:

May be a fluid level issue.
 
On the L322 the lock up clutch is modulated to prevent and control torque converter slippage to 3%....this was done as they didn't fit a mass damper in the drive train, so the tq is allowed to slip to take engine knocking out of the drive line.

In normal driving the ecu controls various lock up 'modes' up to a certain speed when it locks up completely.

So there could be tq judder before final lock up at speed.
 
Thanks for the replies. I went out to do the test you suggested. But I put it into low box which worked. But now its stuck and not go back into high box. But its running mint in low
