Confirmed today at the perfectly most inconvenient time of the year...
cabin heater fan /blower not stopped working due to either a knackered motor or seized drum fan assembly!:doh:
Atleast the heat still comes through when driving, and the heated windscreen switch saves the day melting the morning ice...:rolleyes:

I already have a blower assembly with motor in my spares store....
HOWEVER, anyone know if I can get away with removing just the steering shroud and plastic tray/underdash panel on the driverside to get at and replace said offending part (the motor and drum fan) this weekend...OR, am I looking at having to remove the centre console?:confused:

Would apreciate input from anyone who's do this??

(lookin on the brightside... it saves me trawling around the shops with the missus buying christmas presents...bah humbug)
 
Think it goes something like, with air con dash out, no air con just lower part and slide heater box side ways. My 89 diesel had air con so it was whole lot out (twice !) no need to degas system though. Have fun.
 
yeah the center consol is the easy bit joe, its the aircon bit first if you have it (not too bad a job) but then the whole main dash has to come out :eek:

some may say you are brave to have 3 rrc, having tried it my self I think youre nuts :p
 
Joe, test the spare before you fit it ! A replacement unit is around £200 so havin a spare is good if it works. Best of luck apy christmas and new year. Bazz.:)

The bobtail hasn't got aircon, so fortunately not got that to worry about. I was kinda hoping there might be room to slide the motor out the side once coloum cover and lower driverside dash panel has been removed
Yeah, I got a good s/h one at a giveaway price a while ago when I realised the price they are!

...and yep, I must be friggin nuts, but they're great WHEN they work:doh:
 
yeah , some one else doing the dirty dead , dash out , scrapped knuckles , foul language , right that's the radio out !! good luck , you'll need it .As Mr Tomcat said , Duw it's hard ! :mad::mad:
 
Just an update on this. Needless to say I didn't bother fixing. Not worth it with the bobtail as its a two seater cut back cabin that has a fraction of the interior space t warm once on the move anyhows (with a leccy windscreen).....BUT, I did find some more info on it, including a 48 page PDF file, just in case any one else needs to know;

ive seen that writeup for the heater assembly removal...it wants you to do way more than needed...removal of the dash isint really that big a deal...but i think the best way to change the heater blower motor is to get another assembly and have the motor already installed...then its just a remove and replace....it does take up much of your day for the rplacement...but i do get not fixing the blower in a bob tail fun buggy,,,just my 2 cent....

Yep, I'd still probably do it if it was a main daily driver and creature comforts matter.
 
When my heater was playing up and I was seeking solutions on the web I came across a site that showed how to get everything out without taking the whole dash out. It involved coming in through the aircon side and cutting the metal braces that otherwise block the removal of the blower and bending them out of the way. Afterward the guy repaired the braces.

I wish I could find the link again.
 
would be cool if ya could.....Would defo help out if anyone searches this thread at a later date
 
i dont think it is impossable......but ...takeing out the assembly itself...is challenge...as far as bending your body...the part i probably like the least is reattaching the heater hoses...

The next time I have to get under there I'm going to take off the door.
 
only 2 circlips and a mill pin as long as you have somehwere to rest it out of the way so you dont need to unplug the wires which can be a bastid
