Mistake no.1 using halfrauds in first place
would not trust them for date let alone part unless you can identify yourself
go to dealer or good indy they will tell you if its ok, if they wont tells you cr@p dealer:D

yer now i find out not to use them . trouble is i now have to try to get a refund, if i can show the one they sold me is under powered ,there fore why it keeps going flat ,i'd be in with a chance .

try a web search on bat they sold you and either old one or recomended one ,print off result theres your proof??

i can't get land rovers reccommended data only hand book 107ah . and battery sites show different sizes. i will try main dealers tuesday i think see if they can give me some paper work to show halfords .

Halfords own spec states "AH Value: 91" well below Land Rover spec of "107ah"

Take your owners manual and a print out of their web site battery spec, ask for money back and quote "Goods not fit for purpose" then tell them your reporting them to trading standards first thing in the morning.

Oh and get the name of the numpty you dealing with, preferably a manager and take a witness or better still record the conversation on your mobile, then when they argue about a refund, tell the numpty/manager your've recorded it.

thats frightening it's like you can read minds, have to wait for them to check thing and get back to me on tuesday . but that will be my next step. thanks all for your help brilliant response as ever

The one they sold you is for the V8 not the diesel looking at the spec. The bigger the better with the diesel. 135AH 1000CCA battery megastore

I agree with Datatek, Halfords supplied you a V8 battery, the numpty in Halfords HQ compiling the battery list probably didnt even know there was a diesel P38 Range Rover..

But even if they did, theres always more than one capacity output for a given battery case measurement, so they just stock one size fits all, so to speak....

i did'nt think of it being for a petrol . would that be the reason why the battery goes flat though ? i have looked at the red light on gear shift and it does go out ? i do live it the sticks so little interference i would think.

A petrol engine probably has a compression ratio of 8:1, the diesel engine probably has a ratio of about 20:1 so needs considerably more grunt to turn the cold engine over. The glow plugs heating up the combustion chamber have already taken the edge of the battery before trying to turn/start the cold engine. Then the battery takes a huge hit starting a cold diesel engine, thats why the biggest capacity battery possible is required.

Hence NO Micky Mouse Halfords Crap.

I know Halfrauds come in for a lot of stick on here but I've been reasonably lucky with them. I had my 3 year old HB334 pack up over the new year. I didn't have a receipt to check if I was in or out of warranty but it was a bank holiday weekend with fook all else open so I bought another HB334 anyway. I didn't know there was a stronger alternative, but they didn't have it in stock anyway.

But the reason I say I've been lucky enough is that the battery took my DSE through two record low winters without letting me down once. I only bought the first one off Halfrauds because my LR one also failed at a weekend.
I was looking at Optima Yellow tops because I too am a believer in giving as much power as possible to a diesel and the attached document below gives as good an account of battery selection as you'll ever get.

www.vintagemodelairplane.com/pages/Downloads/Rovers_PDFs/Batteries01.pdf

However, the Optimas can't be gotten here in Ireland too easy so I got to thinking (particularly not on New Years day). With a discount card the HB334 costs about €115. If they only gave 2 years each, I'd still get 3 for the price of a yellow top. 2 hard winters worth of hard starting (before I fixed my timing) says the performance isn't that bad so I could potentially get 6 years worth of battery life for the price of the Optima. The P38 is not likely to last anothe r6 years so going against my better judgement I think I'll take my chances.
