Is it a bad idea to raise the suspension on a Landy if it is to be used for towing? I'm talking towing boats and cars via an a-frame, not a lightweight trailer of garden waste.

I'd like my Landy to be multi purpose!

I used to tow my horse box with a Defender which had a 2 inch lift and had no bother at all.

I'm a newbie, I don't know what ORM or SLS means

There is very little downward pressure on the vehicle when towing, my 700Kg boat when on the trailer can be lifted at the towing hitch by one person.

If it makes the car bounce more though then this is going to be passed to the towing hitch and trailer.

get an adjustable tow hitch.

that way if you feel the need to lift your disco you can drop the height of the hitch for towing. Or even look at a height adjustable removable tow hitch so you dont have it attached if you are off roading/laning.

As has been said, the adjustable tow hitch is the way to go. When your trailer / caravan. boat is hitched up, the A frame of the trailer should be near enough horizontal, not pointing upwards, then providing you've loaded the trailer / caravan correctly and haven't got too much nose weight on, you'll be fine. Just remember that you need to drive differently with a loaded trailer/ caravan etc.

When I got my boat (19', 600Kg + Trailer) it was in Nottingham, I towed it back to Cumbria on my 2.2l Vectra, that was an experience!
