If you mean turning the head of a snorkel round, it is to do with making the thing more fuel efficient, by reducing drag.
Although a snorkel would be a very effective air brake in any case.

Mine does not have a moisture trapat the lowest point in the pipework. But it appears most do have one at the lowest point in the engine bay.
Mine does have the slots, which also help if you get a plastic or similar stuck over the inlet grille.
I only face mine backwards for two reasons.
1) if I am playing a lot in deep water / mud as that stuff will get sucked in there.
2) Driving through thick branches if I remember / know it is coming, twice my "safari" style snorkel top has been ripped off.

Really, I cannot see the snorkel making a big difference to the drag induced by a 90.
Plus if drag was an issue, no one would suggest the ramair effect was a good thing.Although I am yet to be convinced of that as well..LOL

Fella said he had a Southdown, the tops are different and mine had nowhere for any rain to go, it's still in the garden box at mums as I never got round to fitting it before her indoors bought Rusty a safari one to go on as she thought it looked better.

Still unsure as to why that happened, only thing that made sense to me was the fact that the papet filters have a much larger lip and thus must create a better seal.

Can't see wot Differance it makes as to wot way you have the scooooop ! Its suckin a lot of air thru a3x4 hole & at 70mph it's going to suck rain no matter ! Mine faces across the windscreeeen !

The noise you get with them facing backwards is interesting...LOL. especially as in a 90 I generally drive with the window open .
