I have a 2004 HSE too.
My radio comes on when I start the car if it was on when I switched off.
To switch off I press the button on the radio with the engine running.
If I switch off with the radio on, the radio auto switches off in 15 seconds.
If I press the radio button during the 15 seconds it stays on for an hour.
This is exactly what it says it will do in the manual.

Lost me I'm afraid....
Aftermarket audio gear or factory?
Factory fitted the one with single cd just want the radio to turn on when i want it on not every time i turn on the ignition.

We've discussed your radio/sat-nav before I think.
A 2004 HSE should have a 6 CD changer under the driver's seat.
The CD slot in the machine in the dash is primarily to insert the sat-nav disc, although of course it can handle a normal music cd as well.
Perhaps a previous owner has modified the system.

I agree with Singvogel - sounds a bit modified. Have you checked the owners' manual?
i have not got a hand book. but under the passenger seat is a box that i have been told is the amp for the karman sound system ?

First stop here for a handbook, it might help solve it, or at least tell you what should be fitted in your car
