I have a Freelander 1; 2002 2.5 V6.
The radio code has been lost when changing battery. Obviously there is nothing in any paperwork that I can find.
The records at Land Rover show a code which does not seem to work.
Land Rover think someone has over ridden the code.
Does anyone know if this is possible and if so how to reverse it?

I am pretty sure it is the factory fitted original Blaupunkt radio/CD player.

If not can I source a head unit with code to replace the top unit with?

Any thoughts?

Not sure how to crack the code, but a 2002 would almost certainly have had a radio cassette player!! Me thinks not original unit.
Yarp mind do too hav a cassette/radio. But doesnt seem to be effected by the missing code syndrome how many times i replaced or disconnected the battery.

Not a chance of overriding the code. It's had a replacement radio.

The fact it's a Blaupunkt proves its a replacement, as a 2002 FL1 would have had a Phillips R770 without an LCD display, and a cassette. Or if it's got a CD with LCD display, it'll have Land Rover above the CD slot, and on the back will say Vistion CD6500, but most of those were for the US market.
LR never fitted Blaupunkt HUs.

Thanks all,

It's a shame LR didn't seem to know what unit should have been installed.

I gave in and paid one of these online sites to find the code which worked ok.

I am guessing it is a replacement but funnily enough is a badged LR headset by Blaupunkt so I'm thinking they must have fitted them somewhere.

Cheers

Just for our curiosity, could you post a picture of this blaupunkt LR badged head unit?

I'm wondering if it's out of another LR, maybe a RR.
I'm not aware of any UK spec FL1 having a Blaupunkt CD from the factory. The FL1 generally got Phillips or Vistion HUs.

Hi Pete,

I had used one of the online sites to get the code as you recommended, as I said a bit disappointing that LR did not volunteer the information before.

Only mystery remains where the unit did actually come from, if people are sure it was never installed in a Freelander.

Cheers

The model number seems to appear in MG Rover forums as well. It probably works in a variety of vehicles.

I've a suspicion it's from a Discovery. I've seen this HU in a couple of FL1s, but never seen a dedicated user guide for it in a FL1 dash.
It could have even been fitted by a dealer, as a dealer option, rather than a factory option.

You're probably right about it being fitted by a dealer, I looked up the p/no & it lists it for FL 1 & Defender see pic.

Nice find.
At £650 as a dealer option, its no wonder why I've not seen many. That's easily twice the price of a CD player from Kenwood or Alpine of the time, with would have come with more features too.
