I had a post open here http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f10/help-taking-out-radio-get-serial-number-51652.html but as the subject relates to my first issue which was getting the Radio Serial I thought I'd have more luck with a new thread on topic.

Call me a cheap skate but is it possible to get a code for this radio without having to pay someone.

Its a PU-9836a (PRC 7618)

I have the radio serial number too if that helps as managed to get that

Can you not ring the dealer to get it?? This is the way I got my EKA code, then again my dealer does know me but still, they gave it to me for free over the phone once identity was confirmed.

If you have got the radio out and can see the serial number why not go down to the dealer with your VIN number as well and request the code, they should give it to you for free. You may need to take photo ID and the V5

Am in the process of doing that but its such a tedious task as I dont drive to work and have to take time off work and all that and drive 20 miles out of the way to get to a dealer where I am located.
