After reading all the proposals for upgrading the sound system from the original Clarion, I recently followed the advice of one member here and simply phoned the Clarion service centre. For £100, I god a full refurb including new lcd panel, removal of the security code and a line in cable. The line-in cable emerges next to the ashtray - I just popped the trim off the side of the centre console and didn't even have to drill a hole.
So now I have all the old functions plus music off the iPhone (supported by an AirStash with 64Gb of music). So no shiny Kenwood head unit but no sorrow with rewiring everything else and all for rather less money. I can live with that until the beast expires (it shows no sign of doing that) or until "THEY" decided to can FM radi
ne local car audio dealer offered a transplant including the steering wheel controls for around £350, but I wasn't convinced and am so far happy with what I did, and it only took a week to turn the job round. My thanks to Clarion Service Centre!
