has anyone fitted an R380 gearbox as a replacement for an LT77?

whats involved?
Is it as good idea?

Reet, you'll need to do some cutting and rewelding of the big tube thingy between yer 2 chassis rails in order for it to fit, and then you'll need different propshafts due to the fact it's about 2" shorter than an LT77. Other than that, it should fit fine ;)

I don't mind havin a go at the welding bit MHM! I can do cutting too.

thanks 5 - looks like an exchange box then. just thought it mite be an opportunity to go fur a better/stronger box, but seems like too much hard work.

No worries daft, but if yer gonna remove the props and drop the boxes to put a recon in, how much extra work to move the tube a few inches...

mainly coz i already gorra lt77 - i wud have to get an r380.

oh - i furgot Mondo has volunteered to change it for me coz he is an "expert" now apparently ;).

well? anyone got any answers?

Have a word with Ashfcroft Transmissions.
I had this conversion carried out several years ago by their local garage.I dropped it off and picked it up (job done ) the same day .

I can't remember exactly but I think I had to have the bellhousing replaced as the Lt 77 one wasn't any use .,but I don't think it required any cutting /welding.
Anyway Ashcroft had the parts required to do the swap.
