From what I understand my 110 was a 200tdi, fitting lt77 mounts to the R380 box gets it in the correct place for diffs and no mods to seat box or tunnel. Engine 300 tdi sits 2" back and needs mounts moving on chassis. Bare in mind I've never had a defender before and bought mine as a rolling chassis with nothing installed, so learning as I go along !! Need lots of help none the less.

disco r380 will require seat box mods as gearstick arrangement is totally different to a fender box, will take some pics later but on mine the seat box needed mods and the engine is a lot further forward than a 200 tdi, if it was 2" back the gearstick would be getting changed by the rear passengers lol... this pic shows how much space there is between engine n bulkhead compared to a 200.....

and bear in mind my gearstick still comes through the seatbox front edge...

clearance to rad.......

The basic reasoning is that all the chassis are same length , all the axles are in same place , so whatever powertrain you fit , just use all the mounts , and seatbase, gearbox tunnel props relevant to that powertrain , that way all the ancillaries will use standard hoses, pipes etc . In the long run its the cheapest way of doing it , and usually the most reliable as well . JMHO

I used Discovery 200 tdi, Discovery R380 and defender transfer box in my 90

I also used Defender props.

Disco and Defender Transfer boxes are similar so the mounts are interchangeable and will put boxes in correct place
Disco gearbox (either LT77 or R380) will push engine further forward as they have longer bellhousing.
I altered my engine mountings rather than cut chassis mounts off to move forward to hold engine.
Discovery gearboxes also have gearlever further back so it comes up behind Transfer lever rather than in front of it.

As the gearbox mounts attach to the transfer box then props shouldn't be affected whichever gearbox you use.

looking at my parts i have available, if i remove a section of material from my 300tdi discovery cross member either side to allow it to fit to the three fixing point on the chassis. I should be able to fit the 300tdi box using discovery mounts, and everything will line up. Gear Selector top will need changing/converting to a defender one to get the lever in the correct position !

Not sure if this has been done ???

ashcrofts do a conversion kit for r380 levers.
