Just some quick advice, I have seen a series 3 locally which is a petrol with range rover diff for whick makes it higher geared fro fast cruising ?

I had a series 3 diesel, and it was ok to run on fuel... is the diesel better than the petrol? or whats it like MPG wise? has anyone heard of the diff conversion.

If I wanted to convert to a diesel or a 200tdi later on in life is that as easy as converting a standard diesel if that makes sence?

Also to get it in my garage to work on it a bit high, how easy is it to take the roof off? while i work on it?

I used to have a Series 3 2.25 Diesel with the Rangie diffs, which certainly increased the speed (80mph once!!) It does throw the speedo out a bit unless it's been readjusted for them though. I've never had a 2.25 Petrol version, but hear they're pretty good too and probably not a lot of difference between them really, however if you can fit a cheap LPG mod to the petrol one your costs will drop.
converting to Tdi will not really make a lot of difference whether you start with a petrol or diesel model as it will still require a fair amount of component changing to fit it all in.
As for the roof, it's an easy removal job, just a load of bolts to undo which may or may not come out easily depending on how long they've been there. Remember you'll need to re-seal it all back on when refitting, so probably not something you want to do too often, but not really a problem. We used to take the roof off with the side panels still attached as we found that an easier option but you'll need to remove the rear door if fitted.

Not allot of difference mpg between diesel and petrol 2.26's, the petrols are allot quieter and a bit quicker of the mark though, I would say with the rangie dif's it will make a fare difference to on road performance.
Go for it if its in reasonable nik and at the right price.
