I'd say it depends what you do and how you drive. If you're mostly on-road and short journeys then maybe worth it. Long journeys TD5 is pretty good anyway, though the extra torque should be good for towing.

Green-laning I can't see much of a benefit, it's rare you need power and revs, though torque is always good!

Off-roading, maybe ...

On balance I'd spend the money on other stuff .. nearly £400 for a box that isn't a proper solution seems a tad over expensive to me. I'd rather put it towards a decent service and mild tune on a Dyno ... and by mild tune I just mean getting a good overall setup rather than the 'one size fits all' supplied as standard .. ;)

i used one of these units on my p38 diesel,made it more user friendly in mho,but there were no settings to try out on it,just plug it in and see what happens.now i have just bought a similar unit for my disco td5 from Roveron's website,i have used his products before and it is a much better option than the PSI unit as it can be adjusted to suit your driving style,plus it is on offer and is less than half the price of the PSI unit.:D
 
Took my Disco to JE Engineering for a remap, £330 incl VAT. Much better than a plug and pray box in my opinion.

but you are then stuck with that re-map,whereas with the plug in box you can use different settings to suit your self.;)

Not something I would do, I would prefer to be able to easily put it back to standard if I was selling as I know that tinkered with ECU's puts people off.

plus you can transfer a plug and play to a similar vehicle,or sell it on again.can't do that with a re-map.;)

I'm prefer knowing that the map was installed and test driven on the live diagnostics and fine tuned. As well as the turbo being turned up to suit the new fuelling.

If I understand correctly, plug and play boxes just trick the ECU into over fuelling and over boosting?

if your lucky, most just fool the computer into thinking the fuel pressure is lower than it actually is, so the ecu ups the fuel pressure to the "correct" levels. most do nothing with the boost.

I had one on a previous car, and it worked really well, I paid no where near that price for it though, think mine was £80
