Guys have searched high and low on here and in rave, but i can't find the answer to this question, i know that the thermostat on my 2.5 dse opens at 80 oC but when my temp gauge is at 12 o'clock what temp would be considered as the normal running temp? taken on the hose on the right hand side of the engine bay as your looking into the engine bay, the reason i ask is so that i can set up Datatek's fan mod to work at the optimum temp without blowing up another engine, any info will be gratefully received.:confused::confused::confused:

Use a variable thermostat and set it when at "normal temp" then back it off till just after it clicks off
that way if it ever goes above normal it will come on
I also ran a led to my dash so I get a warning light before I overheat

iv'e got the variable thermostat fitted, but how hot should i let it get before i set the fans to come on? the gauge can be sitting at 12 o'clock and the temp at the hose is 90 oC+ should i let it get to say 95 oC? as the gauge is only just starting to move off the 12 o'clock mark at that point:confused::confused::confused:

Vertical needle position is about 80 to 115C. On earlier vehicles (95/96 MY) the needle would rise at a slightly lower temp ~110C.

Set it up according to the instructions, engine up to normal running temperature, adjust stat until fans start, back it off until they just stop. Job done, as soon as the coolant goes a few degrees over normal the fans will start. As far as I remember 95C is normal but it varies a bit.

Data
I think you should add the led like what ive done to your instructions that way you know theres something not right before temp guage goes up
sometimes the light comes on when on a steep hill or ive been leathering it but at least I know its getting hot and to back off a little

Anyone can add an LED if they wish, I'm happy to watch my gauges:)

Thought all us p38 drivers had three eyes. two to watch road and one to watch temp gauge !
