Disco is covered i scratches and stone chips. A respray costs a fortune. On the other hand. Hammerite knock off stuff is 3 quid a can and looks pretty sweet. Have only done the bonnet so far to see if it needs another coat and see how it fills/covers previous paint damage.

I've washed the area i am painting and removed any bird crap and stuff that was on there. I think it has came out quite well.

Opinons welcome :D

How many cans do you think it is going to take to do the whole car?
How many cans did it take to do the bonnet?

i bought 2x 500ml cans for under a tenna. Have recently done my boot floor so have painted that with a couple of coats, and done the bonnet in the same run. Used just under half a can.

Never sprayed it Scotia, thats done with a cheapo £1.50 roller :D

Gonna see how bonnet turns out and do the rest. Looks like its gonna rain so dont wanna get caught out. Gotta scrub the rest of the car before i can paint it.

Will post more pictures as and when i have them. It should be totally dry now so will take a top view shot to see how the roller lines have faired

Christ, it looks good for a roller....

Did you know that you can thin hammerite with hammerite thinners an then spray it with a gun and compressor.

For using a roller that still looks ok.

JOBZ A GUDUN

Thanks Scotia!

It was just a really quick effort. I think the hammer finish hides alot of any imperfections that may come from brush/rollering.

If i can get a finish like this with almost no effort at all. Then any one on here can do alot better

@WolfyDave

No compressor or gun. I'll jus have to make a better effort with roller onn the panels

Don't want to knock what you have done so far mate, and it does look good for a roller. That's ok on nice big surface like your bonnet, but as said, think you should spray the rest as you won't get into some areas with your roller and using a brush is not going to give a good finish.

As said.... i have no compressor or gun or money for that matter.

I can guarantee you that whatever effort i put in with a roller, will look better than it does already. And if it looks like shod, then never mind. It will matter less to me when some scrote ruins it :D

Hi Dude, I do think it looks good for little money....Just a thought for you...

For you final coat it might be worth a try at thinning a little of the paint with 10% hammerite thinners and then using a gloss roller, the paint being slightly thinner should allow it to flow better and flow out the roller edge marks. Might be worth a try on a spare piece of scrap steel.

Wasn't trying to have a go at you mate. You do sound confident and i hope you get the result your lookin for. Keep us posted and maybe look for some tips as i've got a Defender to paint down the line.

Cheers WolfyDave, i will try that. Its not like i can travel fast enough for the lines not to be visible so worth a shot, plus it will make paint go a bit further :D

Dont worry Meego i didnt take it in any negative way.

I dont want to make a really big effort and have it look like really awesome for some little ******* to come along and key it or smash their little hatch back door into it. I wanna do a quick satisfactory job. That way i havent spent a massive amount of time getting it right, and its easily remedied should a scrote try to ruin it.

After owning a car from new, and having it ran into by a foreign driver after 2 weeks. I'd rather a finish that i dont really mind getting scuffed

I know where your coming from. I've got a mint ( well I think it's mint anyway) Disco td5 and i'm ****tin myself every time its parked up at Tesco or some other mindnumbing dump i'm obliged to attend. Have you seen how some women feel the need to throw a door open as hard as is humanly possible and seem to enjoy the satisfying thump it makes as it bounces of your pride and joy. Or insist on squeezing through the miniscule gap some prick has left between their ****heep and your Landy , carrying huge bags containing whatever they have decided to waste their husbands hard earned cash on, dragging said bags up your nice polished paintwork:mad::mad::violent: Got myself worked up now, need to go and have a lie down.

eggggssssssactly!!!!

now think if landy already looks like a child and a hammer have had an hour of fun, and a fivers worth of paint thrown on in a hour or two. next time some little toe rag hurls their door into yours, just hurl urs back and see what happens.

(carry pepper spray just in case)

Ok the rain held off for the afternoon so i thought i'd have a crack at finishing up. Took a bit more care to not have obvious overlaps.

Ignore the ghetto tape on the rear sunroof, otherwise it leaks..... alot!!!

I think you've done well mate. Got a kind of "stealth" look to it. Might have to sue you tho, as i've got the patent out on the tape on the sunroof idea:D. Havin said that i would probably have to sue every other Disco owner in the country as well then.

Hey Dude, the car looks spot on...you done a good job...I wonder if speed cameras won't get you....Can't get a bounce back signal to register speed?
